In the last nine weeks we have talked about drugs and how they are used. We have looked at examples and seen how smoking effects your lungs. We have also been practicing what to say if someone ask you for a cigarette.

The things I have learned in Dare are………..

I learned that there is tar in cigarettes. Tar makes your lungs black and it makes it hard to breathe. I learned that smoking makes you have shortness of breath when you run or even walk. Smoking can also make you dizzy. There are 3,000 non-smokers die of lung cancer each year from second-hand smoke.

I think this is important for me to say no because if someone comes up to me and says ” Do you want a cigarette”. I’m going to think and say to myself, it makes you stink and gives you yellow teeth. I’m going to say to myself is it really worth it and I’m going to say……………… NO!!!

Dare has made a big impact on me because it has taught me a lot about drugs and how they are used. For example if someone smokes pot there probably doing it to be cool or because they are stressed. I have learned this in Dare. Dare has also helped me because if I want to play soccer or volley ball if I smoke it will be hard for me to breathe.

Dare is an awesome program for kids all around the world even if there big or small. I think Dare is good for kids because it teaches kids to stay off drugs. It teaches kids what your lungs will look like if you smoke. Your lungs turn black and shrivels up. Thats gross!!!!!!!

This prods the question, does integrity matter to a sixth grader? Should it?

Integrity should matter to a 6th grader because if a teacher ask you to do something or run something to the office she/he picked you because they could trust you. You want that trust from a teacher because without it they will not trust you to do anything.

Thinking back to the read aloud of Freak the Mighty, and having watched the film, The Mighty, I was thinking about Kevin’s view of integrity. How does it compare to yours? In a few words, does your integrity guide how you live?

Kevin’s view of integrity compares because he does not care what anybody thinks. Kevin is honest and courageous. Kevin has a big heart for a small kid. It compares to me because I’m honest and compares. It guides your life because if your not honest in life you will not get anywhere.

The Juvie Three

My book is called The Juvie Three. The Juvie Three is a book that has a lot of action in it. When you read the first page it makes you want to read on.

The main character of my book is Gecko and he’s 14 years old. Not old enough to drive a car but he thinks he can. He was told by his brother ( Reuben) to go get him a new video game and Gecko does what he says and gets into the car and starts to drive into town. What is going to happen to Gecko if he gets caught with out a license, will he go to jail or run from the police. Or will he not get caught? If Gecko does get caught what do you think will happen to him, do you think he will get off the hook or do you think he will go to jail.

How close are you to reaching your potential?

From a scale to 0-100 I think my potential is about 97%. Because I’m ready for this Ohio Achievement Test, I’m not scared and I’m not nervous I’m ready! When I walk through that school door in the morning I’m going to put my foot down and try my best. Because that’s all you can do is try your best. I will be confident because my friends and family will support me.

I walk

into the forest

and see the birds

singing their song.

I look above me

I see the clear blue sky turn to black

then it starts pouring down rain

heavy drops of rain

from up above.

Then the wind picks up

it blows through my hair

the leaves lifts up from the ground

and fly into the air.

I walk along the old wooden bridge

I look down

the water is rumbling

moving fast along the rocks.

I go on my way

into the darkest part of the forest

were there was no flowers

and no animals in sight.

A part of me says I should go

a part of me says I should stay

what should I do

go or stay.

I look above me and the sun shines through the pines

onto my face

it lights up the whole forest

even the darkest part of the forest.

I see Lilly’s sprouting from the ground

showing off their bright colors

as they stand so tall.

I see a bird flutter on to a tree branch

and a squirrel come out of his hole to find food.

I think the Book Talks are awesome. There getting better every time someone makes one. They really are good because if you want to look for a book in the summer time then you can go on the Reading Workshop and look for the book. Then you can go to the library and get it. They are also good for parents too if they want a book they can get on the Reading Workshop. The pictures are helping a lot because it makes it look more interesting.

After watching the video I thought I know someone who acts that way. I would like to bring the person up.

The person is Madison. Madison is a great helper. Whether it’s on the playground, lunch, recess, or even in the class room.

The person that she helps all the time is Erica. When Erica needs her she always there no matter what. Madison is the kind of person that you can always rely on. For example when Erica is the last one in line Madison always goes to the back of the line and comforts her so she doesn’t feel left out.

Madison is not the only one. There is a lot of people who does good things for others. I think if people help each other all the time the world would be a better place.

When somebody does something good for someone else it rubs off on me. It makes me want to do something for somebody else, like in the video.

I book is called Abduction By: Peg Kehret. I think it is a really cool book I recommend this book to every Sixth grader. You can find it in our Book room.

This is what makes me to read on in my book. Like when Bonnie is threatened by her ex father Denny. They are on a ferry and he is determined to kill Bonnie if she says another word. Denny keeps telling her to back up. He wants her to back up so when he shoots her she will just fall into the water and no one will ever know. Your probably thinking that someone will hear the gun shot but he has a silencer on the gun so no one would her the gun go off.

Will Bonnie get shot or will someone save her? If you want to figure out what happens you will have to read the book Abduction to figure it out.

I am doing a post on Hatshepsut. We studied her in social studies class and now I’m going to refresh your brain, and tell you about her.

Hatshepsut was a ruler of Ancient Egypt. Ancient Egypt is by the Nile River .Hatshepsut was the first laddie Pharaoh. Hatshepsut expanded egyptian trade beyond the boundaries of the of the egyptian empire. Hatshepsut’s name stranded for “Foremost of the Noble ladies”. She was a princess and a wife of a pharaoh. She became a pharaoh when her husband died. Her young step son was supposed to become pharaoh but he was only ten years old. Way to young to become a leader of Ancient Egypt.

In the eighth year of her religion Hatshepsut organized the biggest trading expedition of her career. Her goal was to trade with egypt’s neighbors to the south of Punt. Scribes, solders, artists, and attendants set off along a dusty road that led them east to the Red Sea. There they loaded their things onto five sleek ships for the long journey south. When they arrived in Punt the ships were welcomed by the king and queen. Hatshepsut scribes displayed the jewelery, papyrus, and bronze weapons that the Egyptians had brought to trade. In exchange the pharaoh received gold, perfume, ivory, leopard skins, and even live apes. The traders also received rare incense trees that produced a perfume like smell. This expedition had lasted two years.

She was the daughter of Tuthmose. To become a pharaoh she had to marry Thuthmose two. To become a pharaoh the men had to marry someone who is a relative, sister, or half-sister. They had marry someone who carried the royal blood. Thuthmose two died soon after he became pharaoh leaving the widow Hatshepsut. Hatshepsut managed to rule about twenty years.
